Books that already know Canadian tax.
Northbooks keeps the ledger, runs payroll and prepares your GST/HST and PST worksheets in one place. Snap a receipt with your phone and it lands in your books, taxes split out and checked.

Everything a small Canadian business files, in one app.
Not a US product with a province dropdown. Tax rates, payroll formulas and employment rules are kept as dated data, each linked to the official source it came from.
Snap receipts and bills
Point your phone at a receipt. Northbooks crops it, reads the vendor, GST and PST numbers and totals, then double-checks the math before you post.
Bank matching & reconciliation
Import from your bank, match transactions to invoices and bills, set rules for the repeat ones, and reconcile to the cent.
GST/HST, PST & QST
Every province's codes, place-of-supply rules, and worksheets mapped to the GST34 lines and the BC PST return. Mark a period filed and it locks.
Payroll that follows CRA formulas
Federal and BC tax, CPP and CPP2, EI, vacation and stat pay, WorkSafeBC and EHT. Calculated from CRA's T4127 payroll formulas and tested against them.
Time clock & scheduling
Staff punch in from a phone, tablet kiosk or browser. Overtime and break checks follow BC Employment Standards, and approved timesheets flow into payroll.
Invoices, expenses & reports
Estimates to invoices, payment reminders, expense claims with mileage, and the profit & loss and balance sheet your accountant expects.
Built around the dollar you use
Every customer, vendor, bank account and report starts in CAD. Foreign currency is there when you need it, with Bank of Canada rates.
Every rate has a citation
Tax tables and thresholds carry effective dates and a link back to CRA or provincial publications, so you can see where a number came from.
Leave whenever you like
Full export to CSV, JSON and your original attachments. Every change is logged with who made it and when.
Switch over in an afternoon.
Bring your books
Import your chart of accounts, customers, vendors and opening balances from QuickBooks Online or Xero exports.
Connect the day-to-day
Import bank statements, invite your team, and start snapping receipts. Rules and suggestions learn your usual accounts.
File with confidence
At quarter end, open the GST/HST or PST worksheet, check the figures against their source transactions, and file.
Questions, answered.
Who is Northbooks for?
Canadian small businesses with a handful of employees, starting with British Columbia. If you collect GST and PST, run payroll, and want your books and filings in one place, it's built for you.
Does it file my GST/HST return with CRA?
Not directly yet. Northbooks produces filing-ready figures mapped to each GST34 line, with drill-down to the transactions behind them. You enter them in CRA My Business Account or hand them to your accountant.
Can my accountant use it?
Yes. Invite them with their own login and role. They see the same ledger, reports and audit trail you do.
What happens to the receipt photos?
The original image is stored unchanged next to the transaction it belongs to. AI reads the details, but nothing is posted until a person or one of your rules approves it.
Which provinces are supported?
Sales tax codes cover every province (GST, HST, PST, QST, RST). Payroll and employment-standards rules start with BC; other provinces follow.
